Motivational quotes work – Improve your mindset

Have you ever found something really motivating?

Have you ever felt like some simple motivational quotes work on your mindset and make you feel better?

NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming) explains that if you copy the communication style and the actions which a successful person had, then you should get similar results. This means that if you follow a good example, and you start thinking and acting like that person, you could get amazing results.

When I started reading NLP books, I recognized that often the ideas are explained by examples: something like “if it worked with him, it may work with you as well”.

The main purpose of this article is to make people aware of the power which motivational quotes can have in our minds.

The power of quotes: how they can influence our mind

Let’s suppose that you are doing a new task for the first time, it is something you have never seen before, and perhaps nobody explained how to do it properly.

It’s possible to correctly complete the task at the first try, but it usually means that you are very lucky. You will often face unplanned issues that probably won’t allow completing the task.

Facing such issues and finding a way to avoid them is called experience.

I usually tell myself, after making a mistake: “Making mistakes is only a way to learn”.

Then it comes into my mind what Thomas Edison said: “I have not failed. I’ve just found ten thousand ways that won’t work”.

This means that before the great success, he tried many times, but he didn’t give up and then became the person we all remember.

Another quote that I usually refer to when thinking about mistakes, is the following one:

I really love this quote, because it has a very deep meaning: The master has failed many times, but he (or she) became a master thanks to that. The beginner didn’t even try as many times as the master failed.

In this way, my brain won’t associate bad emotions to the mistake itself, and won’t be afraid to fail in the future, it will only accept the fact that making mistakes teaches us how to do the right thing.

How can I make motivational quotes work?

I’m quite sure that everybody heard a lot of quotes every day, many people use quotes, sometimes without even recognizing it. There are quotes about every kind of occasion.

They are usually very effective when you find the right one for you.

While reading NLP books, you could recognize that they are used very often, especially when the author wants to reinforce something which was just explained.

Allow me to inspire you and make this clearer, what pushed me to write this article and build this site is described in the following quote:

“Those who are happiest are those who do the most for others.” – Booker T. Washington

Helping somebody with my words makes me feel good, so knowing that I did something for you, is a way to be happy.

I love spending my spare time writing, especially if I know that maybe somebody will get inspired by my words, and hopefully, they will lead you out from a bad time.

Winston Churchill said: “If you’re going through hell keep going.”

If you stop while walking through hell, you will simply stay there, so, there is no reason to avoid moving from a bad situation, things can’t be better if you don’t want to change them.

Acting is the only way to make a change.

Motivational Quotes Vs Real Life

Some of you may reply: “OK, it sounds nice, but real life is totally different from quotes, things aren’t as easy as quotes say”

You may be right, you won’t solve any problem by only reading a quote. A quote itself is only a sentence composed of a few words, but let me ask you one thing:

What do you do when you are angry, feeling like you are going to explode if you won’t manifest your anger somehow? What are the words that resonate inside your brain?

They could be: “I’m very angry, I hate that thing!!!”

Those words are going to be translated from your brain in order to become emotions. The final result is that you will feel exactly like the words that you used to describe the current situation.

So, somehow you made your emotions stronger by communicating internally using such words.

What would happen if you rationally think that sometimes things aren’t like we want and this isn’t a good reason why you should waste your day by feeling bad emotions?

Here are some quotes which can be a good example:

“Anger and intolerance are the enemies of correct understanding.” – Mahatma Gandhi.

“For every minute you remain angry, you give up sixty seconds of peace of mind.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson.

“When anger rises, think of the consequences.” – Confucius.

Now tell me, do you still feel very angry? If you think this doesn’t work, it is totally understandable, but I would ask you to try before judging. Give it a chance and try, maybe the result will surprise you.

My favorite quotes

I selected and copied hereby my favorite quotes, hoping that you will find something that may be useful or inspire you when you need them.

“The pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity. The optimist sees opportunity in every difficulty.” – Winston Churchill

“People who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.” – Rob Siltanen

“Whether you think you can or think you can’t, you’re right.” – Henry Ford

“Fake it until you make it! Act as if you had all the confidence you require until it becomes your reality.” – Brian Tracy

“Good things come to people who wait, but better things come to those who go out and get them.” – Anonymous

“It is during our darkest moments that we must focus to see the light.” – Aristotle Onassis

“Success comes from having dreams that are bigger than your fears.” – Bobby Unser

“There are far, far better things ahead than any we leave behind.” – CS Lewis

Conclusion

I’m hoping that you get a clearer idea about the power that words have in our minds. They can change our behavior and make us better people.

If you didn’t find any motto between the quotes written here, you can always find the one which perfectly fits with the current situation and makes you feel better.

Just try to believe that they can really help you as if your best friend give you advice.

  1. Hi Andrea,

Thank you for putting this article together. I have read about Neuro-Linguistic Programming before.

The basic concept is that as we practice doing something in the same way over and over again, we are establishing a pathway in our minds.

Kind of like a footpath getting more and more worn as we walk on it.

These well established pathways are the result of continuous practice and training, and can make everything more fluid.

Thanks for giving this piece of wisdom to everyone that is searching.

    1. Hi Michael,

  2. These are some great quotes, a few of my favourites:

“If you’re going through hell keep going.”

“Fake it until you make it! Act as if you had all the confidence you require until it becomes your reality.”

And one of my own that’s not on the list – dreams don’t work unless you do.

Really thought-provoking post; to think that by picturing yourself as confident can result in a growth in confidence is fascinating. I guess that’s why you hear of people telling themselves positive things in front of the mirror.

    1. Thank you for your comment dear Sharon.
I think that Quotes are somehow a treasure and we should use them to learn from wiser people.
The progress is somehow a consequence of this kind of mindset.

      Kind regards,
      Andrea

  3. Hi, absolutely loving the quotes. I’ve been referring to them for a long time and they truly do help open the mind and keep me going at times. But besides motivation I feel maintaining discipline is as important as it helps turn these thoughts and feelings into action.
Many a time have I been so motivated to do something but lacked the discipline to see it through. I guess it’s trying to find the equilibrium between the two concepts that helps push us forward.
    Thanks again 🙂

    1. Hi Kevin,
yours is a very smart point, and I truly think that discipline is a fundamental part of development.
Without discipline the results may arrive later or not arrive at all.

      Have a great day,
      Andrea
